Maybe I’m Not as Erudite as I Thought I Was

We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to bring you this announcement:

Are you freaking kidding me? I use SAT words people! Ambivalent! Orthodontics! Copious! Affirmation! Misadventure! Manipulated! I write for a living! I pontificate! I hypothesize! I use freaking multisyllabic words (including multisyllabic)!

Obviously, my pride has been ruffled, my feathers strewn.

What’s even more amazing is that I took this little test a while ago and my blog’s level was undergraduate. Now, I’ve been demoted to junior high status. Like, OMG. Maybe I should start watching the OC and High School Musical.

Do you agree with this dear reader? Can this possibly be correct?

  1. I’m very curious to know what method they use to calculate the reading level, because it seems fairly arbitrary. I’m sure there’s some fancy algorithm or something, but I’m still calling BS. Like, OMG! 😉

  2. Heh. Don’t feel bad. I’m putting my English degree to shame; my blog reads at an elementary school level.

    *Sniff*

  3. Did it even pick UP your About Me? I mean, you have “verboten” and “zaftig” and “knickers” (the latter makes me snicker).

On the other hand, if you are writing for your readers, and I am one of your readers, and I am the type who snickers at “knickers”…well then, there you go.

  4. The test has to be flawed. It said my blog was elementary level, and that is not at all true. Farmwife’s cousin verified this when his blog registered as college level, but he rates it personally as far simpler than that.

You are erudite. Don’t ever doubt that. You are also profound on most occasions. The test designers clearly have issues. Perhaps they cannot actually read.

  5. I don’t agree either but I am going to see what it says about mine – with that result for you I’m not hopeful!

  6. No way! You’ve been robbed!

I did this a couple months ago, and my blog came back at the “Genius” level… and I can say without reservation.. that my blog is SO SHORT of genius!

  7. If it makes you feel better, my blog’s junior-high, too. I choose to believe that we just write clearly and simply.

  8. I don’t agree with this assessment at all! I’m not sure I want to know how they’d rank my blog. If they told me that it was elementary school level that would make me cry, as I’m still paying back my student loans for grad school. So I’m calling BS.

Knickers makes me giggle too, and I am also rather fond of zaftig, although I should be since it describes me…

  9. Ladies, thank you so much! I was pretty certain this was totally bogus, but your affirmation (another SAT word!) was great.

And yes, knickers makes me snicker too. I want to say it all day long. I should move to England just to be able to say knickers. Ahhh.
